Welcome to the Roadmap to Effective Distance Education Instructional Design. The Roadmap project, funded through a US Department of Agriculture grant, was designed with the first-time distance education course developer in mind, but it also has the depth necessary to assist seasoned instructional designers. Roadmap covers such topics as distance education instructional design, technologies, and teaching methods; adult learning; assessment and evaluation; and program management.

The initial Roadmap project was a six-module online, asynchronous course for 100 participants around the United States. Roadmap has been revamped into a nationally award-winning 11-module, self-paced CD-ROM, complete with text files, pdf's for use in instruction, narrated PowerPoint presentations, and videos from distance education experts.

Collaborating institutions for the project were the University of Florida, Iowa State University, Texas A&M University, University of Idaho, University of Missouri-St. Louis, and Texas Tech University. Partnering organizations were the American Distance Education Consortium and the Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life and Human Sciences.

To find out more about Roadmap, read the Roadmap summary or the USDA final report. There's also information about the CD-ROM program. A sample module has been provided for you to see.
